Position Summary

Reporting to the Aquatic Supervisor and Aquatic Coordinator, Aquatic Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons in and around the aquatic facility, by preventing and responding to all emergencies and maintaining a safe aquatic environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitor recreational swimming activities, including; patrolling the pool deck and scanning the water, as well as monitoring patrons to ensure a safe swim environment in accordance with Lifesaving Society certifications.
  • Respond to all emergencies as required in accordance with Lifesaving Society certifications and training as outlined in the Aquatic staff manual/guidelines.
  • Educate all patrons on pool safety and enforces all pool regulations and procedures.
  • Wear the assigned uniform and carrying rescue tube and whistle at all times while on duty.
  • Respond to inquiries, resolve problems, and perform associated public education duties.
  • Maintain all qualifications and keep current copies on file at each work location.
  • Assist in equipment set up and take down for the activity/program on the pool deck.
  • Assist with facility maintenance where required.
  • Complete accident/incident reports as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
  • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard (Pool) Certification.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR C.
  • Attend/complete all staff trainings for each work location as required.
  • Complete all Corporate trainings/certifications as required.
Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Ability to perform rescue skills at the Lifesaving Society’s National Lifeguard Pool standard.
  • Ability to provide first aid at the Standard first aid standard.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of an effective lifeguard team to ensure proper positions, rotations and communication.
  • Be familiar with and execute the City of Richmond Hill Aquatic emergency procedures.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions
  • Shows commitment to personal growth, development, and leadership opportunities
  • Shares new ideas and challenges the status quo
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with honesty, openness, respect, and trust
  • Takes initiative to participate in a culture of learning, mentoring, and sharing

  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
