Position Summary

Reporting to the Aquatic Supervisor and Aquatic Coordinator, Aquatic Swim Instructors are responsible for teaching, delivering and evaluating the Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life and Lifesaving programs in accordance with program standards. The Aquatic Swim Instructor will lead specific drills/instruction according to prepared lesson plans while creating a fun, safe and positive learning environment to participants of all ages.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Instruct assigned Swim for Life and Lifesaving programs in accordance to Lifesaving Society standards.
  • Evaluate assigned Swim for Life and Lifesaving programs participants in accordance to Lifesaving Society standards.
  • Plan and organizes all assigned classes through sessional core plans and daily lesson plans.
  • Maintain class safety through the use of formations and proper scanning techniques in accordance with Lifesaving Society certifications and through educating all participants on pool rules.
  • Track participant attendance and progress for all assigned instructional programs on the appropriate worksheet.
  • Complete progress reports for each participant at the end of each session worked.
  • Wear the assigned uniform and carrying an aid and whistle at all times while on duty.
  • Respond to all emergencies as required in accordance with training and as outlined in the Aquatic staff manual.
  • Complete accident/incident reports as required.
  • Respond to inquiries, participant feedback forms, resolve problems, and perform associated public education duties.
  • Maintain all qualifications and keep current copies on file at each work location.
  • Assist in equipment set up and take down for the activity/program.
  • Assist with facility maintenance as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification.
  • Current Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor Certification.
  • Current Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid Instructor Certification.
  • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard (Pool) Certification.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR C.
  • Attend/complete all staff trainings for each work location.
  • Complete all Corporate trainings/certifications as required.

Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Ability to perform rescue skills at the Lifesaving Society’s National Lifeguard (Pool) standard.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Be familiar with and execute the City of Richmond Hill Aquatic emergency procedures.
  • Be familiar with the Lifesaving Society program standards for the Swim for Life and Lifesaving programs.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions
  • Shows commitment to personal growth, development, and leadership opportunities
  • Shares new ideas and challenges the status quo
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with honesty, openness, respect, and trust
