Position Summary

Reporting to the Aquatic Supervisor and Aquatic Coordinator, Aquatic Deck supervisors are responsible for providing on deck supervision of instructional programs, recreational swims and private pool rentals. In addition, the Aquatic Deck Supervisor is responsible to supervise part-time Lifeguards and Swim Instructors, assist with the evaluation of staff performance in the absence of the full time staff, complete all maintenance tasks and ensure reporting procedures and follow up are completed in accordance with the aquatic policies and procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Open and close the facility in accordance with the opening and closing procedures as outline in the Aquatic Staff Manual.
  • Lead staff in day-to-day operations, follows up and communicates with full time staff.
  • Provide on deck supervision during assigned instructional programs.
  • Provide direct supervision to Aquatic Swim Instructors, Aquatic Lifeguards, Aquatic Attendants and Aquatic Volunteers to maintain program quality.
  • Supervise recreational swims and pool rentals.
  • Respond to and leads aquatic team in emergencies, ensuring follow up with reporting procedures as per City of Richmond policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and direction to part time aquatic staff and volunteers during designated shift including mentoring and coaching
  • Provide feedback to Aquatic Supervisor regarding Lifeguard, Swim Instructor and Volunteer performance/evaluation.
  • Assist with facility maintenance including chemical testing where required.
  • Assist reception staff with program registration, membership sales and POS cash management where required.
  • Assist the Aquatic Supervisor with quarterly staff trainings.
  • Maintain all qualifications and keep current copies on file at each work location.
  • Effectively deal with customer inquiries, exhibiting excellent customer service.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard (Pool) Certification.
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification.
  • Current Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor Certification.
  • Current Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid Instructor Certification.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR Level C.
  • Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor Training.
  • Lifesaving Society Bronze Examiner.
  • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner, Standard First Aid Instructor/Examiner, Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Trainer would be an asset.
  • Attend all staff trainings for each work location.
  • Complete all Corporate trainings/certifications as required.
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Lifeguard/Instructor and demonstrated knowledge of City of Richmond Hill policies and procedures.
