Position Summary
Reporting to the Aquatic Coordinator, the Aquatic Supervisor will provide strong leadership and expert guidance to staff by following the City's core values of Care, Collaboration, Courage, and Service. Under the direction of the Coordinator, you will provide supervision, and coordinate daily operation of the pool. You will ensure that quality programming is delivered to patrons in a safe manner.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide supervision to programs to ensure they meet quality and safety standards set out by the City and the Lifesaving Society
- Respond to problems and issues such as medical emergencies, power outages, and pool accidents
- Ensure a high level of customer service to patrons to promote repeat participation
- Participate in the hiring process of part time staff as required
- Conduct orientations and facility training sessions that ensure effective swim instruction and safety
- Create staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage to meet needs
- Work with staff to increase performance and ensure they have current certifications
- Oversee the aquatic volunteers and provide ongoing feedback and training
- Monitor and verify hours worked and input into payroll system
- Review any accident or incident reports and escalate when required
- Manage aquatic drop in programs for recreation swims
- Manage inventory and functionality of pool safety equipment, materials, uniforms, and supplies
- Assist the Aquatic Coordinator with program development to meet the needs of the community
- Assist as needed with the customer registration process, monitoring waitlists and make recommendations
- Support program planning of future sessions, assist with benchmarking and comparisons
- Assist marketing with brochure descriptions of new programs as needed
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma
- National Lifeguard, LSS Swim, Lifesaving and Emergency First Aid Instructor, Standard First Aid and CPR C, LSS Bronze Examiner and Aquatic Supervisor required
- Diploma in Recreation Leadership and advanced aquatic leadership certifications such as LSS Swim & Lifesaving Instructor Trainer, NL Instructor/Examiner, LSS Standard First Aid Instructor/Examiner, Examiner Mentor an asset
- Minimum 1 year relevant experience
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Well organized, independent and highlymotivated, with the ability to handle multiple job responsibilities, set priorities, problem solve and work with all levels of staff
- Knowledge of ActiveNet and SAP systems is an asset
- You also have demonstrated experience in coaching, team building and supervising and developing staff to achieve high levels of performance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications with a strong knowledge of Excel and Word
- Dedicated to continuous learning of aquatics

- Moderate physical effort required. Must be physically fit in order to maintain required technical certifications
- Evening and weekend work and continuous exposure to the pool environment, pool chemicals and extreme temperature fluctuations
- Occasionally is contacted outside work hours to support part-time staff on site
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check required
