Position Summary

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Arts and Culture Specialized Instructor will provide high quality instruction to participants in a specialized arts or culture related program.  Participants may range in age from preschoolers to older adults. The Arts and Culture Specialized Instructor will prepare a course outline and implement age-appropriate activities, ensure participant safety and engagement, follow policies and procedures, and work effectively with the Program Coordinator. Course examples include but are not limited to: fine art, visual art, basketry, etc.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement and actively participate in planned activities.
  • Engage participants
  • With the assistance of the integration team, modify activities to ensure participants with disabilities are able to participate in programs and be fully integrated into the program setting.
  • Ensure there are a variety of activities in the program related to the type of activity being taught.
  • Ensure participant safety and security throughout the program 
  • Complete all necessary forms (accident, incident) in a timely and accurate manner
  • Represent the City of Richmond Hill by presenting yourself in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic and well-groomed manner
  • Report to work promptly
  • Wear assigned uniform
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and staff training sessions
  • Know and understand the policies and procedures of the Community Services Department
  • Maintain excellent public relations at all time, with staff and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
  • Must possess advanced certification or technical training in the activity being taught, e.g. Diploma or Degree specializing in the technical area, Dance Accreditation
  • High Five PHCD Certification is required if working with participants ages 6 – 12 years
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR-B
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience teaching specialized, creative or technical programs and related to the subject matter
