Position Summary
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, The Camp Director - Behaviour Support will travel between Richmond Hill summer camp locations to provide behaviour supports and strategies for campers. Specific duties will include: responding to and deescalating urgent behaviour situations; provide resources to staff to assist in program modifications and adaptations for camper success; provide ongoing support to campers and staff; ensure there are effective communication systems in place in order to work effectively with all campers and camps staff and families/guardians.

Camp Training dates are as listed below:
- June 4 - 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
- June 10 - 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
- June 20 - 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
- June 25 - 8:30 am - 12:00 pm
- Successful appllicants may be notified of additional training
*The times noted above are tenative and will be confirmed in your Employment Offer*
Camp Dates:
- June 29 - August 28, 2026, or if at Elgin West CC, September 4, 2026
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to urgent camper behaviour situations and take the lead with deescalation.
- Provide strategies and resources for campers who are exhibiting challenging behaviours in a camp program.
- Provide strategies and resources for campers who need additional support within the program
- Work with families to gather information about the needs of their child and how the City can best accommodate them.
- Work with Camp Directors and Camp Supervisor to adapt camp programming to meet the needs of participants who require modifications.
- Assist with communication with staff and parents/guardians.
- Regularly visit and interact with campers, inclusion staff and Camp staff
- When required provide coverage for inclusion camp staff breaks and assist with self-care needs. Examples of self-care include but are not limited to: toileting, changing of clothes and/or diapers, lifts and transfers, feeding
- Complete all necessary forms (accident, incident, daily report, risk management) in a timely and accurate manner.
- Represent the City of Richmond Hill by presenting yourself in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic and well-groomed manner.
- Wear assigned uniform and name tag.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and staff training sessions.
- Know and understand the policies and procedures of the Community Services Department.
- Maintain excellent public relations at all times, with staff and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma
- Minimum six months related experience.
- Education in Therapeutic Recreation, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Worker or equivalent would be considered an asset.
- Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification
- Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training is preferred
- High Five PHCD Certification
Required Skills/Knowledge

- May be required to successfully complete the Lifesaving Society Swim to survive Standard
- Strong leadership, written and verbal communication, and organization skills.
- Background knowledge on various disabilities and deescalation and behavior management strategies
- Responds promptly and effectively to urgent or challenging camper behaviors
- Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment when dealing with challenging camper behaviours
- Previous related experience
- Computer skills, including working with Microsoft Word and Excel, Internet Research, and Class
- Must possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, and have access to a vehicle for use on corporate business (mileage compensated) and will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance upon hire
- Requires satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
