Position Summary

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Camp Supervisor Assistant will assist a Camp Supervisor in planning and developing day-to-day programming and special events for a specific summer camp program.  They will assist with the supervision of Camp Counsellors working in the program and provide ongoing direction, supervision and evaluations. The Summer Camp Supervisor will assist the Summer Camp Coordinator and Directors in establishing and implementing the annual orientation for Summer Camp Counsellors.  The Summer Camp Supervisor will be responsible for ordering supplies and equipment and completing administrative duties.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop the day-to-day programming for a specific Summer Camp Program that meets the children’s age and developmental abilities.
  • Modify summer camp programming to ensure campers with disabilities are able to participate in programs and be fully integrated into the camp setting.
  • Ensure there are a variety of activities in the summer camp program that targets the specific genre of the camp.
  • Develop resource material for the Summer Camp Counsellors to assist them in delivering the various activities in the program.
  • Provide ongoing supervision and evaluation of the Camp Counsellors.
  • Ensure summer camp ratios are met at all times.
  • Work with the Summer Camp Volunteers to ensure they are included in the programs and have various responsibilities.
  • Communicate and interact with participants and make everyone feel welcome
  • Ensure campers safety and security throughout the day. 
  • Assist in the implementation of camp training
  • Ensure the summer camp staff payroll is completed and submitted to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Complete all necessary forms (accident, incident) in a timely and accurate   manner.
  • Represent the City of Richmond Hill by presenting yourself in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic and well-groomed manner.
  • Report to work promptly.
  • Wear assigned uniform and name tag.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and staff training sessions.
  • Know and understand the policies and procedures of the Community Services Department.
  • Maintain excellent public relations at all time, with staff and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification
  • High Five PHCD Certification
  • Minimum Level 1 Challenge Course Practitioners Certificate required for Ropes Course Camp Supervisor

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Background knowledge in program planning including crafts, music, sports and games.
  • Experience working in the area of specialty that the camp focuses on.
  • Previous experience in a day camp setting, supervising staff and dealing directly with the public. 
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization and administrative skills. 
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions
