Position Summary

Reporting to the Cultural Services Coordinator, the Cultural Services Assistant will assist the Cultural Services Coordinator, with respect to the implementation of the Richmond Hill Cultural Plan.  The Recreation Assistant will be required to support Cultural Plan initiatives including the Cultural Summit, Culture Maps, Celebrated Stories, Artist in Residence Program, Arts Awards, and Cultural Plan social media accounts. The Recreation Assistant will assist with marketing and promotion, community outreach, event planning and delivery, and project development, implementation and maintenance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Know and understand the policies and procedures of the City of Richmond Hill and the Recreation and Culture Division.
  • Research trends and complete municipal comparisons relevant to the Cultural Plan and Cultural Plan projects.
  • Assist with community engagement to develop the requirements and partnerships for implementation of Cultural Plan projects.
  • Assist with the development of marketing and outreach plans including maintenance and scheduling of Richmond Hill Cultural Plan social media accounts.
  • Verify, input, maintain and update the Culture Map databases (Culture Map and Park Stories).
  • Sustain the ongoing operation of the on-line Culture Map mapping tools.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions on Cultural Plan projects to ensure it meets the needs of the City, community and partners.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, execution and evaluation of Cultural Plan projects, including: Cultural Summit, Artist in Residence Program, Arts Awards, Celebrated Stories projects and more.
  • Train and supervise volunteers as required to support Cultural Services programs and events.
  • Assist with other initiatives related to the Cultural Services portfolio as needed. 
  • Represent the City of Richmond Hill by presenting yourself in a co-operative, organized, enthusiastic and well-groomed manner.

Education and Experience

  • Diploma in Recreation, Arts, Culture, or Heritage Administration or equivalent
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification         

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Municipal Cultural Planning
  • Experience working with databases
  • Experience working with arts and cultural community organizations
  • Experience working with social media accounts, specifically Facebook and Twitter
  • Demonstrated communication and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
