Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Capital Planning and Delivery, the Intern will provide program related assistance to the Department

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Shadow multiple City positions and train in a variety of tasks.
  • Answer phone inquiries, direct calls, and provide basic information; oversee mail deliveries, packages, and couriers.
  • Perform clerical duties, take memos, maintain files, organize documents; photocopy, fax, etc. as needed.
  • Assist in preparing information and research materials; create and maintain PowerPoint presentations.
  • Take notes and memos during meetings; type documents, drafts, and reports; sort and manage files.
  • Run general City related errands.
  • Manage databases and input information, data, and records.
  • Research and gather documentation related to the divisional function.
  • Set up, break down, organize, and maintain conference rooms, training rooms, and meeting rooms; update and manage outlook calendars.
  • Attend City committee and events.

Education and Experience

Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university program, preferably in Engineering or Architecture.

Required Skills/Knowledge

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and the ability to prioritize are a requirement.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate should be an enthusiastic and creative team player.
Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholder groups.
Demonstrate the City's corporate values.
Comfortable working outside (fieldwork).
Possess your own CSA certified steel toe safety boots for fieldwork.
Possess a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license.
Provide own transportation to conduct field monitoring activities (mileage compensated).
You will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance.
