Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Community Centres and Pools, the Facility Operator is responsible for maintaining all mechanical and housekeeping components of the facility and pool and ensuring the facility operates in a safe and effective manner and in accordance with the Health Protection and Promotion Act and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Pool Operations (applicable for all sites):

  • General cleaning of the pool deck and change rooms
  • Water testing
  • Backwashing
  • Operating, trouble shooting and maintaining of the filtration and sanitization systems.
  • Balance pool water (i.e. add chemicals as needed)
  • Dose and clean the pool after a fouling occurs (adhere to local, provincial and national standards)
  • Vacuum the pool and clean the vacuum on a weekly basis
  • Maintain inventory and order pool and facility materials and supplies
  • Drain pool to skimming level daily
  • Add appropriate make up water  to the pool daily
  • Skim the pool(s) daily of debris (or as required)
  • Perform pool accessible lift inspection weekly
  • Dump and scrub of the pool filter tank
  • Perform backwash of the pool’s filtration system
  • Maintain chlorine injectors
  • Disinfect and maintain a clean and safe pool deck
  • Disinfect any shower stalls
  • Disinfect and maintain saunas
  • Conduct applicable re-lamping within the facility
  • Perform any jobs the cleaners did not do the night before
  • Maintain facility program rooms (i.e. clean as needed, set up programs and take down programs)
  • Maintain splash pad and operate within guidelines set forth by York Regional Health Department.
  • Maintain a clean and safe facility
  • Maintain all pool equipment
  • Assist with training of part time attendants and aquatic shift supervisors
  • Act as Lead Hand during Annual Shut Downs.

 

All Pools Except Centennial and Richvale:

  • Perform water slide inspections daily

 

Richvale Only:

  • Perform diving board inspection daily

 

Wave Pool Only:

  • Maintain and repair the wave machine
  • Purchase wave machine parts

 

General Duties (applicable for all sites): 

  • Maintain all walkways and doorways from regress including salting and snow removal of entrance areas (when required)
  • Program set-ups/takedowns
  • Follow preventive maintenance checklists and conduct monthly Health and Safety and applicable Life Safety System inspections
  • Monitor, inspect, program, test and operate emergency and life safety systems (ie. AED, emergency phone, sprinkler system)
  • Monitor and program the building automation system and the lighting control systems
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly and yearly inspections
  • Perform architectural repairs (painting, millwork repairs, flooring repairs, ceiling tile replacement and other install and maintenance of building equipment and fixtures)
  • Submit work orders as needed for contracted work
  • Assist with Organization and scheduling of contractor maintenance and services, provide direction where needed
  • Communicate with staff, contractors, and patrons via email, phone and in person. Respond to, evaluate and address public/patron and/or staff requests; may involve conflict resolution
  • Enforcement of City of Richmond Hill policies, procedures along with all applicable federal, provincial and regional legislation
  • Work with minimal or no supervision
  • Work at heights
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Certified Pool Operator Certificate is required
  • ORFA Building Maintenance and Operations Course or equivalent is an asset.
  • Standard First Aid, CPR and AED Certificates is required
  • Minimum 2 years’ mechanical, pool and facility maintenance experience

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • A team player with good communication and customer service skills
  • Knowledge in the operation of Ultra Violet Light Systems
  • Basic knowledge of word processing and email
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license and access to a vehicle for use on corporate business are essential (mileage compensated); you will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance. 
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector security clearance

  • Required to carry a pager on a rotational basis to be available for after-hours emergency response
