Position Summary

The City of Richmond Hill is seeking a skilled Junior Business Analyst to support modernization and transformation across the Finance portfolio. This role bridges Finance and IT, ensuring financial processes, data models, and system integrations (e.g., SAP and other enterprise platforms) are optimized for efficiency, transparency, and accuracy.

You will play a pivotal role in mapping end-to-end financial processes, documenting business and system requirements, and supporting system integration projects while leveraging data analytics and Power BI to enable data-driven decision-making.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Process Mapping & Documentation

  • Lead end-to-end process mapping for Budgeting, Procurement, Accounts Payable, Payments, and Reporting processes.
  • Develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), workflow diagrams, and process controls aligned with corporate policies.
  • Create and maintain a central documentation repository (SharePoint/Teams) for templates, SOPs, and project artifacts.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Procurement, and IT teams to identify process gaps, risks, and automation opportunities.

Systems Integration & ERP Collaboration

  • Partner with IT to define and validate functional and technical requirements for financial systems (SAP, Workday, or equivalent).
  • Conduct gap analyses between current business processes and future-state IT solutions.
  • Support integration efforts between Finance systems and other enterprise tools (e.g., Concur, Power Platform, Document Management systems).
  • Participate in feasibility studies, testing (UAT), and data validation to ensure seamless solution deployment.
  • Support the QA process, including test plan creation, defect management, and issue resolution.

3. Data Analytics & Reporting

  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards to monitor KPIs, program benefits, and process efficiency.
  • Collect, clean, and analyze data to support financial performance reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues and work with IT on master data governance.
  • Translate business needs into visual data insights for executives and operational users.

4. Stakeholder Engagement & Change Enablement

  • Serve as a liaison between Finance and IT, translating business needs into technical specifications.
  • Facilitate workshops, requirements-gathering sessions, and system demonstrations with stakeholders and vendors.
  • Prepare training materials and lead knowledge transfer to ensure adoption of new processes and tools.
  • Support change management, communication, and rollout planning in collaboration with business owners.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Computer Science, or Data Analytics.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive experience as a Business Analyst in finance, process improvement, or IT integration environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and business process documentation.
  • Experience designing and maintaining Power BI dashboards and data models.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) and collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint, Power Automate).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement.
  • Power BI Data Analyst Associate or equivalent Microsoft certification.
  • Knowledge of data governance, quality management, and financial transformation initiatives.
  • Experience supporting IT-enabled finance modernization or ERP upgrade projects.

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI (DAX, data modeling, visualization).
  • Strong understanding of financial workflows and system dependencies.
  • Experience with SAP FI/CO modules, integrations, and reporting tools.
