Position Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor of By-Law and Licensing Enforcement, the successful candidate will investigate complaints and initiate proactive enforcement to ensure compliance with the provisions of Richmond Hill’s Grass and Weed By-Law. The Long Grass and Weed Inspector will be responsible for general public awareness and education associated with grass and weed maintenance and may also be required to provide back-up support for various other administrative functions and tasks carried out in the Division, such as data entry, drafting and reviewing standard operating procedures, and general policy research.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct site inspections, collect evidence, maintain files, update City databases, and use workflow software.
- Prepare general correspondence and notices to property owners, and discuss resolution of issues with residents.
- Liaise with the City’s grounds maintenance contractor to facilitate work on behalf of the City.
- Other duties, as assigned
Education and Experience
- Currently enrolled in or have just completed a college or university program focused on law and security, police foundations, by-law enforcement, or landscape maintenance.
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize and prioritize daily work, use sound judgment with minimum. supervision, and maintain confidentiality as required.
- Customer service experience.
- Weed identification skills and/or general knowledge related to landscape maintenance.
- Knowledge of municipal government operations and by-laws.
- Demonstrate Richmond Hill’s corporate values of care, collaboration, courage and service.
- Possess a valid (unrestricted) Ontario “G” driver’s license along with a vehicle for use on corporate business (mileage compensated).
