Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Water Wastewater and Roads in the Community Services, the Outside Summer Student - Roads will be responsible for the daily maintenance and assistance of Road infrastructure and assets throughout the City.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • General road maintenance and inspection (e.g. catch basins, manholes, boulevards, potholes, signs)
  • Traffic control and vehicle/pedestrian orientation
  • Stop bar and crosswalk line painting
  • Work order entries and data collection
  • Cleaning and maintenance of trucks/inventory/yard

Education and Experience

  • Be currently enrolled in a college or university as a full-time student and returning to school full time for the fall semester in September

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Previous experience working in a municipal setting outdoors would be considered an asset
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively
  • Must possess Green Patch CSA approved 8" safety boots
  • Be able to work outdoors during all weather conditions and available to work 7 days a week including holidays from April  - September 2022
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License
  • Upon employment you must provide a current satisfactory drivers abstract
