 Outside Summer Student - Water/Wastewater

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Water Wastewater and Roads, the Summer Student-Water/Wastewater will be responsible for the daily maintenance and assistance of Water/Wastewater infrastructure throughout the City.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Traffic control setup and vehicle/pedestrian orientation
  • Work order entries and data collection
  • Parts and Materials delivery
  • Painting fire hydrants
  • Cleaning and maintenance of trucks and yard
  • Preliminary field work and site inspections (e.g. water valves, manholes, chambers)
  • Site restoration (sodding and topsoil)

Education and Experience

  • Be currently enrolled in a college or university as a full-time student and returning to school full time for the fall semester in September 2022

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Demonstrate the City’s corporate values of care, collaboration, courage and service
  • Previous experience working in a municipal setting outdoors would be considered an asset
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively
  • Must possess Green Patch CSA approved 8" safety boots
  • Ontario Class "G" Driver’s License in good standing and must provide a satisfactory current Drivers Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO)
  • Be able to work outdoors during all weather conditions and available to work 7 days a week including holidays
  • Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions
