Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Recreation Programs, the Program Coordinator will provide strong leadership and expert guidance to staff by following the Town's core values of Care, Collaboration, Courage, and Service. You will be responsible for the coordination, implementation and supervision of all recreation programs for the Rouge Woods Community centre and neighbourhood area.  This position has a specialized focus on sports programming and leagues.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the recruitment process of new staff; develop job postings and interview questionnaires in conjunction with Human Resources; review applications, interview, evaluate and make recommendations for hire of staff
  • Ensure required training and qualifications are completed and valid such as First Aid, Certifications, Health and safety, HR training
  • Develop, approve and implement appropriate staff schedules for direct reports, as well as  approve payroll and vacation time 
  • Create program descriptions, schedules and materials for the marketing and promotion of programs and inputing into the registration system.
  • Lead an assigned portfolio and provide backup to other coordinators in the section.
  • Research, develop, coordinate, implement, supervise, and evaluate programs
  • Conduct research and gather statistics to ensure programs are meeting the needs of the community, and develop new programs and services as required
  • Provide guidance and supervision for direct reports
  • Ensure required training and qualifications are completed for new hires
  • Develop, approve and implement appropriate staff schedules for direct reports, as well as  approve payroll and conduct performance evaluations 
  • Create a positive experience for patrons by providing exceptional customer service 
  • Responsible for sectional budget preparation and monitoring
  • Monitor all program revenue and expenditures, and purchasing program supplies

Education and Experience

  • Diploma in Recreation or a related discipline
  • Emergency First Aid & CPR B

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Knowledge and experience in delivering sports programming for all ages and for developing and managing leagues in a variety of sports.
  • Ability to independently resolve problems and issues under minimal supervision
  • Familiar with ActiveNet and SAP
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications with a strong knowledge of Excel and Word
  • You also have demonstrated experience in coaching, team building and supervising and developing staff to achieve high levels of performance
  • Well organized, independent and highly-motivated, with the ability to handle multiple job responsibilities, set priorities, problem solve and work with all levels of staff while appreciating the responsibility of meeting tight and conflicting deadlines
  • Proven interpersonal skills to foster and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating high proficiency in conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, and have access to a vehicle for use on corporate business (mileage compensated) and will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance upon hire
