Position Summary

Reporting to the Facility Operations Coordinator, the Seasonal Labourer - Arenas, is responsible for facility operations maintenance related to arenas.  This position oversees the facility to ensure programs/events run as scheduled and is responsible for the security and safety of the facility and its patrons.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures the facility is opened and closed at scheduled times
  • Notifies the Lead Hand or the Facility Operations Coordinator regarding any staff or facility related issues.
  • Operates ice resurfacer and/or specialized equipment such as edger, scissor lift, swing machines, ride on scrubber, etc.
  • Performs general cleaning/maintenance (i.e. mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, window cleaning,     
  • Washroom/dressing room cleaning, snow shoveling, garbage pick up, etc.) in accordance with the daily housekeeping schedule
  • Performs set up and take down of tables and chairs for events, meeting rooms, banquet halls, etc.
  • Responds to requests from patrons (general public) and other City of Richmond Hill staff on general
  • Facility issues and/or maintenance requests
  • Operates power tools and cleaning and safety equipment
  • Responsible for the security of the building
  • Ensures that all policies and procedures are being followed by patrons and part time maintenance staff as applicable
  • Delegates and assigns job duties to part time facility maintenance staff and follows up, as required
  • Adheres to corporate initiatives (i.e. recycling, energy management)
  • Utilizes computer systems (i.e. Lotus Notes)
  • Operates and monitors facility operation systems and records readings
  • Ensures facility scheduling is “executed” in a prompt and timely manner
  • Be responsible for the allocation of dressing room keys
  • Assists with annual shut down maintenance schedule

Education and Experience

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma
  • Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Basic Refrigeration or ice maintenance certificate would be an asset
  • Minimum 2 years’ related experience

  • Promotes a safety conscious working environment; notices potentially hazardous situations, consistently enforces safety procedures and demands compliance with health and safety regulations with part time staff and contractors
  • Uses basic functionality of word processing, and e-mail
  • Ontario Class "G" Driver’s License in good standing and must provide a satisfactory current Drivers Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO)
