Position Summary
Reporting to the Parks Supervisor(s), the Seasonal Labourer position will be responsible for performing various tasks including winter control operations, park and trail pruning, repairs to park infrastructure and waste and litter pickup throughout the City of Richmond Hill.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Work within a crew to maintain various parks and municipal properties and infrastructure
- Investigate, assist and/or take corrective action for enquiries from the public, reporting issues to the Foreperson
- Perform duties in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and City policies, procedures and practices.
- Able to work various shifts including days, statutory holidays, evenings and weekends
- Available to work standby
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Experience in the operation of various winter maintenance equipment used in parks and road allowance (e.g. sidewalk machines (tractors), hand shovelling and salting)
- Experience in horticulture, parks maintenance, and road maintenance and operations
- Sound knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment application for several functional areas of parks maintenance work
- Exercise some independent judgment and initiative
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Can effectively work under pressure and handle difficult customer situations
- Physically able and competent to perform the physical demands of this position under adverse weather and site conditions
Required Skills/Knowledge Con't
- Ontario Class "G" Driver’s License in good standing and must provide a satisfactory current Drivers Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO)

Education and Experience
- High School Diploma
- Post-secondary education in parks operations, horticulture, arboriculture, or related fields is an asset
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification
