Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Roads and Traffic, the Seasonal Laborer - Roads is responsible for the maintenance and repair of City Road infrastructure. You will have sound knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used for several functions including road, sidewalk, boulevard, and stormwater management facility maintenance work.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of roadway surface (potholes using hot or cold mix asphalt)
  • Winter Road Patrol Duties as per the Minimum Maintenance Standards
  • Winter experience with plowing and salting is an asset
  • Traffic control experience is an asset
  • Sod and/or boulevard repairs where required
  • Removal of garbage and debris where required
  • Illegal sign removals
  • Maintenance and completion of legible records and work orders
  • Investigating and assisting with follow-ups to public enquiries
  • Cleaning, washing and fueling of equipment as required
  • Any and all other duties as assigned
  • All duties must be performed in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and City policies, procedures and practices

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent   
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR/AED certification
  • One year experience in a related position would be an asset

 

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Ontario Class "G" driver license in good standing and upon employment must provide a satisfactory current Ontario drivers abstract from the MTO
  • Ontario Class "DZ" driver license in good standing and upon employment must provide a satisfactory current Ontario drivers abstract from the MTO is an asset
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team environment
