Position Summary

Reporting to the Arena Program Coordinator, this position is responsible for providing assistance with respect to the development, coordination and implementation of the City Wide skating instructional and drop-in skating programs.  Provide leadership, orientation, training, supervision and evaluation of skate instructors, volunteers and supervisors.
Prepare payroll and complete administrative duties as required.  Follow policies and procedures, while delivering skate programming.  Work effectively with the coordinator, peers, participants and the public.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and delivery of instructional and recreational skating programs. 
  • Schedule and supervise program instructors, staff, volunteers and skate supervisors.
  • Liaise with Community Centre Services and Skate Cashiers to ensure collection and monitoring of   program fees.
  • Assist with inventory, purchase and delivery of program supplies.
  • Provide assistance with program evaluations.
  • Actively involved in the delivery of staff training sessions.
  • Know and understand the policies and procedures of the City of Richmond Hill and the Recreation and Culture Division.
  • Respond to inquiries from participants.
  • Work with the Marketing Section to develop accurate promotional materials.
  • Liaise with the Arena staff to ensure safety for participants and superior customer service.
  • Prepare statistics and necessary reports.
  • Occasionally fill in for last minute staff absences.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Education and Experience

  • Graduate of, or currently enrolled in a post - secondary program in Recreation or Kinesiology or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License and use of a car (Mileage compensated)
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening 
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C
  • Proficient skater with a strong background in figure skating, hockey, or ringette 
  • 1 -2 years of experience in developing and delivering Learn to Skate programs

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Active Net.
  • Skating Coaching or Instructional Certification or equivalent experience.
