Position Summary
Reporting to the Coordinator of Theatre, the Stagehand - Flyperson/Rigger will plan, establish and maintain the safe and efficient installation of all rigging and acrobatic equipment for productions in accordance with the Director and Designer's vision.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate all rigging as needed to run performances and rehearsals
- Maintain daily, weekly and long term inspection and maintenance schedules
- Ensure the stage, backstage, and shop areas applicable to the rigging equipment are kept clean and organized
- Establish emergency contingency procedures for show systems with Stage Management and all of the technical team and ensure all are trained and familiar with these procedures
- Advise all divisions on matters of overhead safety and fall protection and ensure that an efficient rescue procedure has been developed and practiced for every high work or high performance area
- Participate in special projects/events as required
- Coordinate with other divisions onstage as needed to run the performances and rehearsals
- Perform functions in lighting and sound where required
- Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety Administration regulations and City policies and procedures in order to maintain a safe work environment for staff
- Able to work a flexible schedule, days, evenings, weekends and public holidays
- Available to work standby

Education and Experience
- High School Diploma
- Post-secondary certification in a related field
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with single purchase fly systems, manual counterweight systems, acrobatic rigging installations, theatrical rigging and maintenance, and inspection routines
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar position on large scale productions
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Experience in stage management
- Experience operating a scissor lift including the knowledge and implementation of safety procedures
- Strong organizational, problem solving and creative abilities
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Work well under pressures
- Knowledge of MS Office: Word and Excel, and Google Calendar
- Competent internet research abilities
- Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions
