Position Summary

The Supervisor, Application Services will demonstrate strong leadership skills and capable of providing direction, feedback, and guidance to a team responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of custom and commercial software applications. You will work closely with client departments to oversee the design, development, users training, and implementation of multiple concurrent, corporate-wide systems; manage multiple development projects and application support functions for a variety of City applications.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of internal and external technical and business specialists in the acquisition, development, implementation, process improvements and support of business applications.
  • Manage projects and work with project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders to ensure definition of clear requirements and develop and plan strategies that support achievement of business objectives and priorities.
  • Support the development of skills and performance standards across the section by working with staff to ensure consistency with performance reviews and performance management standards.
  • Ensure personal and professional development of staff and encourage a culture that supports the development of innovative and effective business solutions.
  • Prepare RFPs (including detailed functional, technical, and business requirements) and RFQs on the acquisitions of hardware, software, application, and professional services as required.
  • Works closely with and manage performance of third-party technology vendors to supplement delivery teams and trouble shoot complex technical issues.
  • Lead the design of detailed application solution plans and test strategies, oversee business testing of application solutions, and manage activities to gain client acceptance.
  • Manage operating budgets, prepare business cases for capital planning.
  • Generate and track resource plan and effort estimates for ongoing operational support.
  • Establish effective support model and agreed service levels to manage client priorities.
  • Provide Tier 2 application support, identify remediation actions, and manage the implementation of improvements.
  • Ensure alignment of business solutions with enterprise architecture principles and IT strategy
  • On-call/standby evenings and weekends are required – must be available to work evenings, flex shifts, extended hours and statutory holidays when required.
  • Must be willing and able to transport yourself to City work sites as required (mileage compensated).

Education and Experience

  • University Degree in Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • ITIL, PMP and TOGAF designation/certification would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 7 years working experience in SAP-FICO, SAP-PSCD, Cash Management, Fund Management (FM), Business Planning (BPC), Project Systems (PS), SAP-MM (Purchase Requisitions & Purchase Orders), SAP HCM, SuccessFactors.
  • Advanced experience of S/4HANA, RISE with SAP, SAP BTP, SAC, ALM and SAP technologies related to Finance, Payroll and HR.
  • Advance knowledge of SAP functional, technical guidance and support of SAP modules, including application architecture and development principles for SAP environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully establishing and directing an application development and sustainment team that analyzes requirements, develops, implements solutions, provide users training and sustains a wide variety of business applications using various technologies.

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Minimum of 7 years progressive experience in systems analysis, design, development, testing, system integration, implementation, and support of SAP S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, business applications and software.
  • Strong knowledge of process improvement, BPMN, process mapping and ability to deconstruct complex business requirements, propose options and map best fit options to business processes.
  • Working knowledge of business cases, RFQ’s, RFP’s, SOW, project charters, budgets, contract development, vendor negotiations and relationship management.
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with project management, SDLC, and applications implementation methodologies, solutions architecture, IT security, governance, and compliance.
  • Highly developed leadership, interpersonal, conflict resolution, negotiation, facilitation, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in cross-functional teams with experience leading, coaching, developing, and motivating staff.
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with a variety of COTS, databases (HANA, Oracle, SQL Server, etc.), integration platforms, infrastructure, web & mobile technologies, cloud technologies.
  • Good working knowledge with all or some of finance operations, including AR, AP, banking, capital management, asset management, financial accounting, cost accounting, taxation, profitability analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills adept at effectively dealing with multiple competing priorities while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies with ability to evaluate nd recommend new technologies for introduction into a complex IT environment.
